Grooming Services

**We are eager to announce that we have a PROFESSIONAL GROOMER**
with over 10 years experience available by appointment!
Please contact KRISTIN at (732) 275-7671
We have seen the quality of work Kristin puts forth and are very eager to present her to our customer base as our top recommended groomer.  She is great at managing difficult dogs, dogs who have been neglected in their grooming, and all of our customers rave about her skills too!
Basic Grooming by Kennel Staff

Dogs know when they are clean and looking good. We will be glad to send your dog home cleaned up after a boarding stay or make an appointment for drop-off service.  We work carefully, never rush, and do not overbook appointments. We always take our time and do it right. Our Grooming Station is compact so we can reach everything we need without turning our back on your dog.  Please note that we are not professional groomers or stylists (except Kristin mentioned above), rather pet care specialists.  Our grooming categories may be described as follows:

Pricing

There are many variables in dog grooming, such as whether a dog has long or short hair and also if the hair is matted and tangled. Therefore, there is no set pricing for grooming. Our staff set individual prices for each dog, largely based on the time required to complete the chosen service. Factors which determine the price of a service include:

  • Degree of matting
  • Coat type
  • Disposition of the dog
  • Drying time
  • Length of hair
  • Size of dog
However, you will find our prices quite reasonable. We will be happy to quote you a price range over the phone, and we invite your inquiries.

Regarding Hair Cuts:

We are not stylists trained in breed cuts and styling.  We can offer basic hygiene trims around the derriere, between the toes, and of mats here and there, but beyond that, we don't currently provide any styling services.

Nail Trim:

We offer nail trimming as allowed by the dog at no set charge.  We just ask a small donation to our rescue dogs.

Organic African Black Soap/ Shea Bath

For dogs with extra sensitive skin or owners who prefer organic remedies, we offer a treatment Casey the kennel owner uses on her own very sensitive skin!

Sensitive Dog Bath

For dogs with sensitive skin, we offer a few hypo-allergenic shampoo (including one sulfate free) options and a hydrating mist to re-moisturize the skin after the bath and blowdry.

Itchy Dog Bath

For dogs who are itchy due to hot spots, allergies, etc, we offer special formulas of medicated shampoo, conditioner, and spot spray to help alleviate the bothersome itching.

**These baths are not a cure for any condition, and should only be used to help with the itching symptom of a condition that has been seen by a vet.  If a dog has broken or seriously damaged skin, we advise that you have the vet recommend the course of treatment.**

Shelter Dog Bath

We foster many dogs from many places in the kennel, and one of the first orders of business for a dog from unknown or known filthy conditions is a good bath before bringing them into our general population.  We offer an antifungal/ antiseptic formula shampoo which we use on many of our shelter fosters.

Flea & Tick Bath

We try to prevent fleas from entering our space at all costs, but we do carry Capstar for our customers to give their dogs to kill adult fleas before bringing the dog in.

For dogs who don't already have fleas, we have a flea preventative shampoo available.

Dogs brought in to board who are found to have fleas will be administered Capstar, quarantined, and bathed in flea shampoo at a cost of $40 to be added to the boarding bill.

Desensitization Services

Dogs don't come pre-programmed knowing that grooming is a positive fun experience.  Let us introduce your dog to our grooming area in a slow positive manner that will leave him or her feeling clean and proud and more eager to return the next time.

Puppies are the best candidate for this as they are sponges for new experiences and generally are trusting of a kind hand.

We are not afraid of an adult who has had some bad experiences in the past either.  We just need to know about the issues up front in order to allot enough time and stratagize on the best way to handle them.  We often get clients who have been asked not to return to other groomers and we often have little or no trouble caring for them.

FURminator Service

About twice a year, many breeds "blow" their coat in preparation for the next season.  Spring and Fall are usually the worst, but many dogs shed year round.  This can be hard on their humans for many reasons, including allergies.  Brushing frequently with the right brush can help immensely.  We recommend the FURminator products.

Below is a before, during, and after portrayal of our FURminator Service on a German Shepherd who is blowing her coat.  Hand plucking and a shed blade were virtually ineffective.  Within an hour, she was brushed all the way out with a FURminator, bathed with FURminator Shampoo, blow-dried completely, re-brushed with the FURminator, and looking SHARP!
